O.R.D.U.C.

A DIY messthetics avant-pop oddity from the Netherlands, O.R.D.U.C. or the One-o-seventh Royal Dutch Underground Company was a sort of band that changed formation and had a few releases in the early 80s.

Wha-Ha-Ha

A fantastically strange Japanese outfit that was introduced to European audiences by the brilliant Recommended Records. Trying to describe them is a very difficult process as they can switch between improv ambient and virtuosic jazz in seconds.

Transmitters

The Transmitters is one of those extremely influential at the time but now mostly forgotten post-punk bands to come from the UK's fantastic jazz/punk/funk scene. For fans of Gang of Four, Glaxo Babies etc

Proper Little Madams

Something like an early 80s femme-feminist Puppini Sisters, Proper Little Madams create quirky sing-along folk songs with sweet lyrics and simple instrumentations.

P-Model

Led by Susumu Hirasawa - Not quite an obscurity in Japan, but largely unknown outside, P-Model is for the fans of quirky Devo-ish type of stuff, sometimes experimental but ultimately fun!

New Asia

New Asia is the recording one-off project of producer Ian Little, an interesting mix of synthpop and jazzy improv industrial music.

Die Zwei

Very strange cold-war type of americanism-style German band that mixed 80s synth pop with all sorts of strange folk influences. Their one album is just very odd, changing styles between songs.

DNA

Possibly the most seminal band when it goes to anarchic anti-structured no-wave of New York, DNA where more avant than anything of their time.

Trobecove Krušne Peći

One of the most arty bands to come out of ex-yugo's brilliant new wave scene, Trobecove Krušne Peći incorporated performative elements in their gigs and scored an addictive angular screamy punk-funk.
